The Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has described the official installation of Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo as the beginning of a renewed era rooted in cultural pride, unity, and tradition.

Oba Olaoye, who was among the dignitaries present at the historic event, said the occasion was far more than a royal ceremony—it symbolized a reaffirmation of Yoruba heritage and intergenerational respect. “This moment transcends a mere royal installation,” he said. “It is a powerful testament to our shared heritage and the mutual respect that continues to bind generations together.”

The installation ceremony, held in Oyo Town, reached its peak when the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, formally presented the Staff of Office to Oba Owoade I, officially confirming his ascension to the ancient and revered Alaafin throne.

Oba Owoade I now becomes the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, stepping into a lineage steeped in history, legacy, and spiritual significance.

In his goodwill message, Oba Olaoye congratulated the people of Oyo on what he described as “a remarkable milestone,” expressing hope that the reign of the new Alaafin will bring sustained peace, purposeful progress, and enduring prosperity.

“May the reign of His Imperial Majesty be long, impactful, and guided by wisdom, as he steers his people towards a future that honors the dignity and greatness of the Alaafin’s throne,” the Soun said.

The installation of Oba Owoade marks a new chapter in the annals of the Oyo Empire, one many hope will be defined by visionary leadership and cultural renaissance.
