The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, is scheduled to pay a historic visit to the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The much-anticipated visit is expected to further strengthen the cultural and historical bond between the two ancient Yoruba cities—Oyo and Iwo.
In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oluwo, Alli Ibraheem, the visit is described as a symbol of enduring unity and royal brotherhood between the two revered traditional institutions.
“The royal affinity between the two stools is strong, and both monarchs are committed to preserving and deepening this historic relationship,” the statement read.
Oluwo urged all well-meaning sons and daughters of Iwoland to come out en masse to receive the Alaafin with the warm hospitality for which Iwo is renowned.
“The Alaafin of the Oyo Empire, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, will visit the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, in his palace. The visit will entrench the existing unity between the two ancient cities of Oyo and Iwo,” the statement emphasized.
Oba Akanbi, who is also known as Alase Lori Orisha, Arole
