The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba [Dr.] Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, has said love and compassion are not luxuries but necessities which without them, humanity cannot survive.
Oba Adeyemi stated this last Friday in Lagos at the launching of a film titled. OWO NAIRA BELT, which was produced by a popular Nollyhoood Yoruba movie star, Lizzy Anjorin.
The monarch who was a special guest of honour at the occasion stated that to be self aware is far more valuable than being perfect mostly because the former is attainable and helpful, while the latter is neither.
Relationships, Alaafin noted, are not easy, as they mirror everything ‘’we feel about ourselves. When you have had a bad day, the people around you seem difficult. When you are not happy with yourself, your relationships seem to be lacking’’.
The paramount ruler asserted that ‘’the problem of broken homes and its effects both on the particular family and the society have doubtlessly continue to place considerate burden on the individual, the family, the community and the society at large, as they have
seriously constituted clogs in the wheels of national development and survival’’.
He went further, ‘’broken homes produce children deprived and denied of quality education, adequate parental care and wider opportunities, and consequently, most times turn out to be social deviants and
delinquents with constitution of nuisance in the society as their major stock in trade’’.
According to Oba Adeyemi, ‘’the child first place of contact to the world, stressing that the child as the result acquires initial education and socialisation from parents and other significant persons in the family.
The family lays the psychological, moral and spiritual
foundation in the overall development of the child. This is why married couples must allow trust, confidence, harmony and sincerity of purpose to be cornerstones of their lifestyles’’
Alaafin who described Lizzy Anjorin as an intelligent, hardworking and dedicated Yoruba movie star, also stressed the importance and relevance of home videos and film production in revamping the society from decadence.
The film illustrated the need for couples to understand, trust and have confidence in one another, as yardstick from fraternal relationship and antidote to divorce and home breaking.
The colourful event which witnessed a gallery of aristes also featured musical concert.
Among notable musicians that entertained the guests included the popular fuji star, Wasiu Alabi, a.k.a Pasuma, and Juju maestro, Sunday Adeniyi, a.k.a King Sunny Ade.
