Akpabio, Kalu Honoured at UNICAL @ 50 Awards

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, were honoured on Thursday at the 50th anniversary awards ceremony of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in Cross River State.

Both Akpabio and Kalu, distinguished alumni of the institution, received awards in recognition of their contributions to national development.

Senator Akpabio attended the event with his wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio, and a delegation of senators, including Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Osita Ngwu, Titus Zam, Sunday Karimi, Asuquo Ekpenyong, and Eteng Williams.

Dignitaries from the University included its Chancellor, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero; the Pro-Chancellor, (DIG) Udom Ekpoudom (rtd); and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi.

The event featured an anniversary lecture, the unveiling of UNICAL @ 50, a commemorative book reviewed by Prof. Obi, and the cutting of the anniversary cake.
