Akintunde Expresses Optimism on SWDC’s Role in Driving Rapid Regional Economic Development
As the newly established South West Development Commission (SWDC) formally commences operations following its inauguration, Distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on South West Development Commission, has expressed strong optimism about the Commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate of accelerating regional economic development.
The Commission held its inaugural Board meeting in Ibadan, attended by all members recently appointed and inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his remarks, Senator Akintunde commended the leadership of the Commission under Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, Chairman of the Board, and Dr. Charles Akinola, Managing Director, for their commitment to laying a solid foundation for regional economic growth.
The Senator, an expert in Energy and Management Development, assured that the wealth of experience and professionalism of the Board and Management team would provide the drive needed to achieve the vision behind the establishment of regional development commissions across the country.
> “We are confident and remain focused on the goal of fast-tracking economic integration through the establishment of regional development commissions. The South West, by virtue of its locational advantage and status as a leading economic hub, has a critical role to play in driving national economic growth,” Akintunde stated.
He further noted that Nigeria and Africa are set to witness transformative economic progress through the efforts of the SWDC, describing the initiative as a turning point for the region and the continent at large.
The Senator disclosed that the Commission would soon begin rolling out its action plans aimed at bridging infrastructure gaps and promoting sustainable economic integration.
While congratulating the newly inaugurated Board and Management, Senator Akintunde urged them to embrace a spirit of focus, vision, and energy in the discharge of their responsibilities, in line with the expectations of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
