The Superintendent of Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Oyo State Command, Achichi Onjefu, has called on organizations and societal groups to join hands with the agency in the fight against drug abuse through sensitization campaigns.
Onjefu made this call during an awareness program organized by the Association of Humble and Obedient Youths (AHOY) in Ibadan, themed Resolution Konverge.
He emphasized that drug abuse sensitization remains a core responsibility of the NDLEA and urged various stakeholders to actively participate in educating the public, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug abuse.
He warned that both drug users and those found in possession of illegal substances face severe penalties under the law. Onjefu further stressed the need for urgent action, noting that Nigeria currently has one of the highest numbers of drug abusers globally.
Also speaking at the event, AHOY Chief Yusuf Idris, advised young people worldwide to avoid drug abuse due to its harmful effects. He echoed Onjefu’s call for collective responsibility in curbing the menace of substance abuse.
The event also featured a medical outreach program for the elderly, offering free sugar level tests, blood pressure checks, and other health services
