The Alumni Association of Anglican Grammar School Ogbomoso has name the school main auditorium after the pioneer Principal, Chief Benjamin Adeniyi Oke
The United Kingdom trained educationist was the school principal between 1976 – 1983
The 94 years old discplinarian hailed from Ola community in Ejigbo local government area of Osun state
Mr John Ojekanmi, the Alumni President while speaking on the development said the decision is in compliance with the promise to honour the pioneer principal who played significant role in shaping the future of his then students
He said the association decided to rename the hall after him to celebrate his 94th birthday and to appreciate him for his contributions to their alma mater.
The Hall was renovated by Federal Ministry of Works and HSDG /SPU 2019.
Apart from the hall, most of the classrooms in the school have been renovated with learning facilities and basic infrastructures provided through the Association.
Speaking about the former school principal, Adewuyi Adegbite said “Oke served as a principal when teaching profession at all levels was valued and professionals were respected.His contemporary in Ogbomoso in his days as principals were Rev’d Faminu, the Igbajo born Soun High School principal, Chief Gesinde of Ogbomoso Grammar School, Chief SA Adetutu, Ogbomoso High School, Chief Beyioku, Baptist High School “
“He instilled discipline in his students and testimony of his accomplishments are his former students making waves in different fields of human endeavors today in Nigeria and abroad and the cynosure of all eyes AGSO
“He canned us when necessary and patted us when occasions demanded. He thought us brave and impacted in us secular and religious education. He made the use of Songs of Praise (S O P),. a must on the assembly and taught us many songs all in order to build us intellectually and otherwise.”
“He detested truancy and would dared you to wander aimlessly outside the school compound during the school hours, ” you must not be seen outside the school compound between the hours of 8 and what? “, the students would chorus 8 and 2. “Ayoade oku ole, ki Tete de sile iwe , ojojumo lonpe leyin Ayoade, Ayoade oku ole,” was his favourite song to discourage truancy among his students.
