Atiku Slams FG Over Non-Implementation of Supreme Court Ruling on Local Government Funds

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Federal Government of deliberately defying a Supreme Court judgment mandating direct FAAC allocations to local governments.

In a statement, Atiku said that by July 2026, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would have spent two full years ignoring the binding ruling, describing the delay as “defiance” rather than mere inaction. He alleged that the government’s refusal to comply is a political strategy aimed at pressuring opposition governors to join the APC and maintaining control over ruling party governors.

“At stake is not just political maneuvering; it is the welfare of millions of Nigerians at the grassroots,” Atiku said. He added that withholding local government autonomy undermines communities, stalls development, and leaves basic services and salaries unpaid.

The former vice president called on the President to immediately direct the Attorney-General of the Federation to enforce the Supreme Court judgment, warning that anything less would amount to a “failure of leadership.”
