The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, has laid the foundation for the Fedegbo Mega Weaving Centre, a transformative project aimed at preserving cultural heritage, empowering local artisans, and creating sustainable economic opportunities within the community.
Represented at the foundation-laying ceremony by key traditional leaders — the Aare Ago of Ogbomosoland, Chief Samuel Otolorin; the Iyalode of Ogbomosoland, Chief Mrs. Ogundare; and the Onifedegbo of Fedegbo — Oba Ghandi described the initiative as a significant milestone aligned with the town’s 25-Year Developmental Plan.
Located within the Ultra Modern Market at Fedegbo, the centre has been officially named the Fedegbo Mega Weaving Centre. It is envisioned as a hub for innovation in traditional textile production, particularly Aso-Ofi weaving. The facility will include modern weaving units, training halls, and learning spaces where young people can acquire valuable skills and convert cultural craftsmanship into sustainable livelihoods.
In a statement shared on his official page, Oba Ghandi emphasized that the project is more than just a physical structure—it represents a bold step toward cultural preservation and economic empowerment. “This is a legacy of industry, dignity, and self-reliance,” he wrote. “Ogbomoso is proud of you. I am proud of you. Future generations will rise and call you blessed.”
The monarch expressed deep appreciation to the illustrious son of Ogbomoso who sponsored the project and urged other well-meaning indigenes to emulate the gesture by supporting the town’s transformation agenda.
The Fedegbo Mega Weaving Centre is expected to become a major cultural and economic landmark in Oyo State, reinforcing Ogbomoso’s reputation as a centre of innovation deeply rooted in tradition.
