A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Gbenga Adegbola, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the nation’s children on the occasion of the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, calling for stronger and more deliberate policies aimed at securing their future.
In a statement from his media office, signed by Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi, Dr Adegbola described children as the most valuable asset of any nation, stressing that no effort should be spared in nurturing and protecting them.
“Children are the foundation of our tomorrow. If we fail them today, we risk a bleak future for our country,” he said. “This day should not only be about celebrations and fanfare, but a solemn reminder of the collective responsibility we owe the next generation.”
The Saki born APC governorship hopeful emphasized the need for the government at all levels to formulate and implement policies that promote access to quality education, healthcare, nutrition, and protection from all forms of abuse and exploitation.
“Our children deserve a Nigeria where they can dream freely, learn safely, and grow in dignity. It is time we move beyond lip service and demonstrate real commitment to their welfare through budgetary allocation, policy implementation, and community support systems,” he added.
He also urged parents, teachers, religious and community leaders to play active roles in shaping the moral and intellectual development of children, describing this as key to building a responsible and prosperous society.
While commending President Bola Tinubu’s administration for some of its youth-focused initiatives, Adegbola stressed the importance of scaling such efforts to include children at the grassroots level, especially those in rural and underserved communities.
“As we celebrate today, let us remember the out-of-school children, those displaced by conflict, and others who face daily struggles. Let’s work together to give every child a fair chance at life,” he concluded.
