In preparation for the anticipated surge in traffic during the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS11.312 Oolo Unit has partnered with JRB Construction Company to carry out palliative works and enhance road safety along the Oyo–Ogbomoso highway.
Speaking during a collaborative session with JRB officials, the Acting Unit Commander, Femi Adeyemo, emphasized the importance of proactive measures in ensuring a safe and smooth travel experience for all categories of road users during the festive period.
“The Command has put in place tactical strategies to guarantee a hitch-free and quality travel time along the route. Key among these is the implementation of effective traffic control measures and the deployment of an Intelligent Transport System (ITS), supported by real-time communication via closed user group (CUG) platforms,” Adeyemo said.
Acting on the directives of the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, and insights from Assistant Corps Marshal (Operations) Hyginus U. Omeje, the initiative underscores the FRSC’s commitment to achieving zero crashes and maintaining free-flowing traffic throughout and beyond the festive period.
A recent strategic road safety audit led by the Command’s Head of Corps Safety Engineering (COSEN), DRC Ibrahim G. Oyewopo, identified critical flashpoints including Idi-Emi, Elega, Odooba, Oolo, and Adetunji. This led to the deployment of personnel to enforce lane discipline and implement traffic calming strategies across those areas.
Further oversight was conducted by the Corridor 32 Commander, Mr. John Omokandugba, who assessed the readiness of the route for the upcoming high-traffic season.
Adeyemo urged motorists to avoid route violations, which remain a leading cause of road traffic crashes on the corridor. “The Eid period is a time of movement and reunion with family. Road users must embrace safety practices and demonstrate responsibility behind the wheel,” he said.
He commended the Oyo Sector Commander, CC Rosemary Alo, for her proactive leadership and unwavering support for road safety operations within the zone.
Responding on behalf of JRB Construction, Project Manager Mr. Mohammed Shaibu expressed appreciation to the FRSC Oolo unit for their collaborative spirit and support as construction work progresses along the Oolo–Ogbomoso axis.
As part of its broader public safety initiatives, Adeyemo announced the continuation of the Command’s “Road Safety Awareness Campaign,” already launched in Ajawa (Ogooluwa LGA) and Iluju (Oriire LGA), aimed at reducing road crashes through enlightenment and education.
He also noted that the Command’s recent collaboration with the Traditional Council of Oriire LGA aligns with Goal 2 of the Corps’ 2025 Corporate Strategic Goals, which prioritizes stakeholder engagement for improved road safety outcomes.
The FRSC Oolo Unit concluded by wishing the Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
