The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has strongly refuted claims by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Oyo State branch, regarding the alleged unlawful termination of over 3,000 staff members.
The company labeled the claims as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that the affected individuals were not IBEDC employees but rather outsourced personnel from Premier International Procurements & Logistics Limited (PIPLL).
In a statement issued on March 7, 2025, IBEDC clarified that PIPLL, a third-party human resource outsourcing firm, was responsible for hiring and managing the affected workers. As such, IBEDC stated that it bears no responsibility for their termination or potential reinstatement.
“IBEDC strongly rejects any misleading narratives that unfairly attempt to associate us with this issue. These reports misrepresent the facts and risk misleading both the public and stakeholders,” the statement read.
The company further expressed concerns over ongoing protests and picketing activities, stating that such actions disrupt power distribution services and negatively impact economic growth. IBEDC also warned PIPLL that its continued business relationship with the company was at risk due to its “unprofessional handling” of the situation.
Meanwhile, IBEDC noted that PIPLL has begun engaging relevant stakeholders, including the disengaged workers, the Ministry of Labour, and the NLC, to address the situation.
Reaffirming its commitment to ethical labor practices and corporate responsibility, IBEDC assured its customers that its primary focus remains the delivery of reliable electricity services. The company also urged the public and the media to verify facts before spreading misleading information.
