The newly appointed chairman of Ogùn-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Honourable Olusegun Dokun Odebunmi has commisserated with the parents and families of minors affected by the unfortunate incident that led to a stampede resulting in the death of over 35 children and causing injuries to several others during a Christmas funfair organized by an ex-wife of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Queen Dammy.
Odebunmi in a statement he personally signed described the saga as an enormous tragedy for Oyo state and the country at large.
Bunvic as he is is fondly called prayed for speedy recuperation and soothing healing for those who suffered injuries of differing degrees and for the repose of lost souls.
“I sympathise with the President of the nation, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Oyo state government, parents and guardians of the deceased,” he noted.
He therefore called for sober reflections from people and residents of Oyo state while charging stakeholders to look into both the remote and immediate cause of the tragedy. He advocated “caution, improved preparation and arrangements for massive events such carnivals in the future, should not be underplayed or jettisoned,” he said.
