The Royal Spices Academy, on Tuesday celebrated its 2024 graduation ceremony with presentation of 71 culinary specialists that have been trained in various discipline and event management.
The event which also marked the 6th graduation ceremony was held at
World Lillies Event Centre in Ibadan.
At the event, thirty-eight students received Certificates in Culinary Arts, while seventeen students were awarded Diplomas in Culinary Arts. Two students obtained Certificates in Pastry and Finger Foods, and five students earned Certificates in Cake Making and Sugar Craft.
Also two students received Diplomas in Cake Making and Sugar Craft, and three students were awarded Certificates in Hotel and Hospitality Management.
Dr. Olufunmi Adegbile, Rector and CEO of Royal Spices Academy, in her welcome speech, said emphasized the significance of the graduation, highlighting the hard work, dedication, and passion of the students. “We are celebrating a milestone in the lives of our 71 graduates. This momentous occasion marks the culmination of your hard work, dedication, and passion for your different skills. As we gather to celebrate your achievements, we acknowledge the diverse talents and skills that each of you has developed.”
She acknowledged the resilience of the students despite economic challenges, noting, “Despite the current economic situation, our students have shown remarkable perseverance and dedication to their studies. Their success today is a testament to their hard work and determination.”
Dr. Adegbile further encouraged the graduates, saying, “Your journey has been marked by growth, learning, and perseverance. As you move forward, remember that the skills you have acquired are not only a means to succeed but also a foundation to become great entrepreneurs and productive members of society.”
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Tunde Laniyan, reflected on the progress of Royal Spices over the past 33 years and the growth of the academy. “The journey of Royal Spices has been one of continuous growth and achievement. Over the past 33 years, we have established ourselves as leaders in the culinary and hospitality education sector. The success of our graduates is a reflection of the quality education and training we provide,” he stated.
Dr. Demola Adegbile, Chairman of Royal Spices Academy, emphasized the importance of skill acquisition in today’s society, noting, “In today’s fast-paced world, having a skill set that sets you apart is crucial. Our academy is committed to equipping our students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their chosen fields.”
The guest speaker, Dr. Ayobami Owolabi, Deputy Registrar of Corporate Communications and Student Services at Lead City University, Ibadan, delivered a speech titled “Skill Acquisition and Investment for Personal and National Transformation.” Dr. Owolabi emphasized the importance of skill acquisition complemented by other key factors for value-added enterprises. “Skills are a foundation but must be complemented with other key factors such as character, attitude, valuing oneself, and managing one’s appearance and impression,” Dr. Owolabi explained. “Skill is essential but not enough. In this new world with emerging market mind shifts and personal branding, these attributes are crucial.”
Dr. Owolabi elaborated on the new dynamics of the modern world, stating, “We are entering an era where traditional methods of employment and business are evolving rapidly. The new world requires a shift in mindset. Emerging markets demand not just skills but also innovation, adaptability, and a strong personal brand. These elements are what will set you apart in the competitive landscape.”
He further encouraged the graduates to embrace continuous learning and personal development. “Never stop learning and growing. The knowledge you have gained here is just the beginning. Keep honing your skills, seek out new experiences, and remain curious. Your education does not end with this ceremony; it is a lifelong journey.”
Dr. Owolabi also spoke on the significance of investment in personal and national growth. “Investing in yourself is the most valuable investment you can make. Your skills, knowledge, and personal brand are your greatest assets. By developing these, you contribute not only to your own success but also to the transformation of our nation.”
Mrs. Williams Esan, representing the Oyo State government, expressed gratitude for the government’s support in approving the academy, underscoring the importance of such support for educational institutions. “We appreciate the government’s role in supporting educational institutions like Royal Spices Academy. This support is crucial in ensuring that our students receive the best possible education and training,” she said.
The best graduating student, Miss Enechazaiam Genevieve Nwakaego, shared her experiences and lessons learned at the academy, expressing gratitude for the support of her instructors and peers. “My time at Royal Spices Academy has been filled with invaluable experiences and knowledge. I have learned the importance of hard work, dedication, and continuous learning. I am grateful for the support of my instructors and peers, and I look forward to applying what I have learned in my future endeavors,” she shared.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Award of Excellence to Mrs. Stella O. Ladipo, FNIM, MBA, MCIM-UK, for her outstanding contributions to the community. The ceremony also featured awards for the best overall student, Miss Enechazaiam Genevieve Nwakaego; the most innovative student, Mr. Bello Abdulwaheed; and the best-behaved student, Mrs. Kehinde Omobolanle Anike. Additionally, certificates were awarded to all graduates.
Dignitaries present at the event included Mrs. Sola Adeboye; Mrs. Irene Oshinbolu; Mr. Gbenga Aro; Dr. Olateju Lawal; Mr. Funsho Ogunkeye; Dr. Iyabo Bassir; and Pastor Sina Olaniyan, among others.
