Oyo NSCDC Celebrate 2022 World Civil Defence Day

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) Oyo State Command Celebrated this year International Civil Defence Organization (ICDO) Day which always comes up on 1st of March every year in a grand style at the Command State Headquarters, Agodi Ibadan with the theme of the year tagged: CIVIL DEFENCE AND MANAGEMENT OF DISPLACED POPULATIONS IN FACE OF DISASTER AND CRISIS; ROLE OF VOLUNTEERS AND THE FIGHT AGAINST PANDEMICS.”

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Oyo State Command CC ADARALEWA MICHEAL during his anniversary speech, described the International Civil Defence Civil Defence day as a process that has helped out throughout the world especially during the times of war, whereby volunteers were created to assist and help to save casualties of war and also aim to make people aware of the critical roles of Civil Defence in Disaster prevention and promotes awareness among citizens on how to prepare and protect themselves during the challenging time.

The Oyo State Commandant made this known today, while addressing journalist during this year celebration, he said that the command commenced this year celebration with a Jumat service on Day one, while embarked on health walk of about 5.3 kilometers within the state capital on day two before a thanksgiving service at Orita Mefa Baptist Church to marked the third day of the celebrations. The State Command team went to schools, market places and motor parks to sensitize and train the citizens of the state on the awareness of the safety environment and reason why we need to live to protect the Civil populace as laid down in the 5 days programme for this year ICDO day by Oyo State Command.

He added that volunteers who are civilian must know that their aims are to preserve life and not to be recording with cameras or posting the incident while neglecting the victim thereby worsening patients condition but to promote recovery.

Speaking during the grand finale on the 1st of march 2022, the guest lecturer at the occasion Prof. Rasheed Okunola from the department of sociology University of Ibadan reiterated the need for the corps to allow volunteers especially during disasters as it helps the corps in his prevention and protection of lives and properties in the country.
The guest lecturer also emphasized the roles of the corps in finding remedies to emergency situations in our dear country, he stated further that he knows that the corps is not working alone but in synergy with all relevant agencies for effective service delivery to the populace.
