A former aspirant for the Oyo Central Senatorial District ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA), has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, while calling for genuine reconciliation and restitution following the conclusion of the party’s 2027 nomination processes in Oyo State.
Alli, in a statement titled “Supporting Unity, Seeking Restitution: Standing With Our Party, Standing for Our Principles,” said he had consulted party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and loyalists on the way forward after the senatorial primary.
He expressed appreciation to thousands of APC members and supporters across Oyo Central who supported his aspiration, acknowledging their prayers, sacrifices, resources and commitment throughout the primary election.
The former aspirant stressed that he remained neutral during the APC gubernatorial primary, noting that his decision was deliberate and that he did not support any of the gubernatorial aspirants despite having personal relationships with some of them.
According to him, his position on the outcome of the senatorial primary was therefore not influenced by any political arrangement arising from the gubernatorial contest.
Alli disclosed that he met with the party’s reconciliation committee on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, where he reaffirmed his commitment to the APC while presenting concerns arising from the Oyo Central Senatorial primary.
He said although many of his supporters believed that the outcome did not adequately reflect their choices, he had urged them to remain calm and disciplined.
“I am a party man,” Alli declared, stressing that he believed in the APC and its future and had no intention of leaving the party.
He said he did not support defection or anti-party activities and would not encourage his supporters or associates to work against the APC or its candidates.
However, Alli maintained that party loyalty should not mean silence in the face of genuine grievances.
“True reconciliation must go beyond asking aggrieved members to simply concede and move on. It must involve listening, acknowledgement, restitution, healing and rebuilding,” he said.
He explained that restitution did not necessarily mean reversing every decision or outcome of the primary, but should involve meaningful steps to acknowledge legitimate grievances, repair damaged relationships, restore confidence and reassure party members that their sacrifices and contributions were valued.
According to him, the grassroots remain the foundation of the APC, adding that their trust and confidence would be critical to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
Alli also congratulated Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Ph.D., on his emergence as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State.
He described his relationship with the senator as one that goes beyond politics, noting that the two had maintained a bond across different circumstances and were affectionately regarded by many as “twin brothers.”
He appealed to the APC governorship candidate to use the opportunity of his emergence to build bridges and close the gaps created during the primary elections.
“All the primary contests are over; the task before us now is to unite the party and focus our collective energy on winning in 2027,” he said.
Alli urged Senator Sharafadeen Alli to reach out to other aspirants, their supporters and stakeholders, saying leadership at the present moment required extending a hand to those who felt hurt or excluded.
He assured the gubernatorial candidate of his goodwill, prayers and support as a loyal APC member.
Reflecting on his senatorial ambition, Alli said his aspiration to represent Oyo Central in the Senate was motivated by a genuine desire to serve the people.
Although the contest had ended, he said his commitment to Oyo Central, Oyo State and public service remained unwavering.
“The contest may be over, but the work of healing has only begun,” he stated.
Alli concluded by emphasising that his commitment to the APC and Oyo State remained unchanged.
“We seek unity, but not at the expense of truth. We seek reconciliation, but not without restitution. We seek peace, but not through the silencing of genuine grievances,” he said.
He reiterated: “I remain a party man. I remain committed to the APC. I remain committed to Oyo Central. And I remain committed to the greater good of Oyo State.”
