The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela on Thursday commended the efforts of Secondary School Principals for students’ excellent performance in 2017 WAEC examination
The commissioner gave the word of commendation during a meeting between Principals of Secondary Schools and Stakeholders in education sector at Lagelu Grammar School in Ibadan.
According to him, “last year’s meeting like this, when results from various secondary schools were under consideration, the results were not acceptable but now that they have passed, we are here to commend their good effort.
“We have not gotten to where are going and as a result, we have set our target and is getting to fruition. We have talked to our principals that by dint of their hard work, we will get distinction in next year WAEC results”, he stated.
Also speaking, the Coordinating Director of Oyo State Post Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Olubunmi Oni said the meeting offers opportunity of interacting with the Executive Chairman and his team on the best approach to aggressively tackle the downward trend in the performance of the students in the National and international examinations such as WAEC and NECO.
According to her, the motive behind the gathering is to engage the principals in an open and constructive dialogue about the best way to rescue the state educational sector from total collapse and reposition it among comity of states of the federation in tandem with the stance of the present administration under the leadership of Gov. Abiola Ajimobi.
She added “outcome of results in the recent times in national and international examinations have shown that we are still slumbering and need to rededicate ourselves to the task of total revamping of education in Oyo State so as to justify huge investments by the State Government in the sector”, she stated.
