As the continuous registration exercise by Independent National Electoral Commission INEC begins in Nigeria, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State, Hon Akinwole Akinwale, has urged members of the public to register and correct any issues with their voters’ card to enable them to participate in the forthcoming election.
Akinwole who is fondly called Wolekanle said the voters’ registration is important because it is the first step that enables people to vote for the candidate of their choice and achieving the Nigeria of our dream.
In a chat with journalists in Ogbomoso, the party chieftain decries the low participation of people during the election and calls for a change of attitude and improvement during subsequent elections.
“It is sad to note that only 29million people voted out of 200milion people in Nigeria, this is ridiculous, we have to be involved in the selection of our leaders so that we will choose the right person .
“I read in the news recently that about 700,000 PVC are yet to be collected in Oyo state too, This is not too good
“Your vote matters, you have the right to vote and be voted for as a citizen of this great nation it is your civic responsibility, don’t shy away from it
He urged youths who are 18 and above or just reaching 18 years to visits INEC offices in their locations to do fresh registration or correct issues relating to their card before the next election.
Speaking on the state, Wolekanle said, “Like every other citizen and residents of Oyo state we are all proud of Eng Seyi Makinde, his achievements in the first instances lured me back into the party and he has kept amazing us with outstanding performances in infrastructures, Education, Health and sports developments and others in the state.
” He did not only deserves being applauded but also our support to succed in the remainin years in the first tenure and re-elect him for another one in 2023
