About 120 Farmers have benefitted from training facilitate by Senator Teslim Folarin , lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial districts at the upper chamber of National Assembly.
The training which was organized by Nigeria Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research NIOMR Was handled by different companies including Red Test Nigeria Ltd, Bagemae Concept Ltd, Telefonica Blizzard Company Ltd and Temedat Integrated services Ltd.
Each of the company handled training on different section in Agribusiness including training and supply of Farm Inputs, Seeds and Agro Chemicals, training and supply of grain grinding machines and training and supply of farm implements and seedlings for rural farmers as well as was held at various centers in Ibadan.
Beneficiaries which were drawn from all the local government across the senatorial district were also provided with financial grants and materials to boost their business
Senator Folarin while presenting empowerment materials to the beneficiaries said the idea is to train and empower real farmers especially youth and women on improved farming method order to enhance productivity and make foods available in the country
“During our electioneering campaign we promised to provide more jobs and enhance existing ones, and I believe Agriculture which is the mainstay of our economy is one of the way through which we can create jobs, this is the beginning more training and empowerment programme will be organized and I belief that thousands of Jobs would have been created through this”
Senator Folarin however urge beneficiaries to make good use the training and materials distributed to them and promised to set up a monitoring team to investigate and check how the beneficiaries are faring in their business
Dr Adekunle Oresegun, one of the Director at Nigeria Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research said the training is all inclusive and express optimism that participants have acquired required knowledge needed to start and boost their operations in Agric business
He said further that continuous training and retraining is important as well as provision of capital and necessary materials for the farming. “No knowledge is waste but the important thing is idea backed with financial resources and materials to implement use the idea.”
“Nigerians should use this opportunity of this border closure to invest and be involved in agriculture so as to provide food that will not only sustain us but also earn us money through exportation”
Omotola Afolabi One of the beneficiaries in an interview said ” This is an opportunity have been waiting for, i am a graduate and i am into fish farming, this training will add value to my knowledge as well as improve my skills in farming the same way I believe it will influence other participants because it’s a comprehensive training
The duo of Adedeji Gbolagade from Oyo town and Olabisi Ejalonibu while appreciating Senator Folarin for facilitating the developmental programm complements the claims of Afolabi about the training and express optimism that they training will further buoyed their interest in farming.
