The Oyo state police command has debunked the social media news which reported that three more persons have been killed as a result crisis that ensued after the governorship election that held on Saturday.
Since the death of Temitope Olatoye (Sugar) on Saturday, there has been reports on social media platforms on Sunday that three other persons have been killed in Ibadan.
The Oyo state commissioner for police, Shina Olukolu has however calmed the tension and told the people of Oyo to shun such fake reports.
He advised against mischievous people whose intentions are to cause unrest and create fear in the people of the state.
In a statement issued by the police command, Olukolu stated “the Commissioner of Police Oyo state Command, CP Shina T. Olukolu Psc(+) wishes to inform the entire good people of Oyo state that my attention was drawn by critical Stakeholders and AlG
Zone 11 Osogbo to the spate of unsubstantiated stories of alleged
killings published in the social media today 10th March, 2019 which is alarming. These stories, I can confirm in its entirety are false, planted by mischievous persons to deliberately cause disaffection and tension in the State.
“I therefore appeal to the good people of Oyo State to be wary of such uncorroborated, frivolous, unethical online publication that appears to being contrived to cause panic, confusion, and
pandemonium within the entire citizenry with a view of causing public disorder.
“The Commissioner of Police also wishes to appeal to our critical Stakeholders in the media to always endeavour to crosscheck their stories or reports before publications. As the Nigeria project, and Oyo state is our collective heritage that must not be destroyed on the altar of personal gain or interest.
“I therefore, wish to seize this opportunity to once again appeal to the people of Oyo State to go about their lawful duties or businesses without any fear or intimidation. The relative calm and tranquility being enjoyed in the State must not under whatever guise be destroyed. The business of security is a collective responsibility which the people as Stakeholders must continue to partner and synergise with the Police to enable us serve the community better.
