AGSO Ogbomoso Old Students Unveil Programme for Golden Jubilee Celebration
The Old Students Association of Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso (AGSO), has unveiled a four-day programme for the school’s Golden Jubilee celebration, scheduled to hold from Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Founded in 1976, Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso, has recorded five decades of academic excellence and service, producing graduates who have distinguished themselves in various professions and endeavours across Nigeria and around the world.
The Golden Jubilee celebration is themed “50 Years of Excellence: Preserving the Past, Securing the Present and Building the Future.” It is expected to bring together generations of old students, teachers, members of staff, community leaders, stakeholders and friends of the institution to celebrate its achievements and reflect on its contributions to education and society.
The Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Mr. Akinola James (Kasla), said the committee had put together a programme designed not only to celebrate the school’s rich heritage but also to contribute meaningfully to its present development and future growth.
A major highlight of the anniversary will be the Anniversary Lecture, to be delivered by Rev’d Dr. P.O. Oyedokun, Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ogbomoso Zone 1.
The lecture is expected to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to examine the achievements of the institution over the past five decades and consider the challenges and opportunities for secondary education and the future development of the school.
According to the programme, activities will commence on Thursday, September 24, with courtesy visits to strategic stakeholders and media organisations, followed by indoor and outdoor sporting activities at the school field.
The first day will also feature the planting of anniversary trees and the establishment of a memorial corner within the school premises, aimed at preserving the history and memories associated with the institution’s 50-year journey.
One of the major highlights of the celebration will be a health and medical intervention programme for old students, members of staff and people in the host community, with about 300 beneficiaries expected to benefit.
The programme will also feature a Golden Jubilee Luncheon and Award Ceremony at the school hall, where distinguished individuals, alumni and other notable contributors to the growth and development of the institution will be honoured.
The Alumni President, Professor Gbenga Bello, said the anniversary was an important opportunity for former students and other stakeholders to reconnect with their alma mater, celebrate its accomplishments and strengthen their collective commitment to its future.
The organisers said the Golden Jubilee would go beyond a reunion, describing it as a celebration of five decades of academic excellence, character formation and service to society.
They noted that the achievements of the school’s products, many of whom have excelled in their chosen fields in Nigeria and across the world, remain an important part of the institution’s enduring legacy.
As AGSO Ogbomoso marks 50 years since its establishment in 1976, the celebration is expected to renew the bond among its alumni and stakeholders while providing a platform to preserve the school’s proud history, secure its present and build a stronger institution for future generations.
