Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede, former Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will deliver the public lecture marking the 90th birthday celebration of High Chief Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun, the Balogun of Ogbomosoland.
The public lecture is scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026, at The Hall, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Oloyede, a Professor of Islamic Studies and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, is a distinguished academic and administrator with extensive experience in education, public service and interfaith relations.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr Gbite Adegoke, the public lecture is part of activities organised to celebrate Balogun, who attained the age of 90 on July 22, 2026.
High Chief Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun is an accomplished scholar, seasoned administrator, astute politician, distinguished public servant and respected elder statesman whose career has spanned academia, public administration, politics and community development.
Balogun began his academic career teaching History at Makerere University, Uganda, before continuing at the University of Ibadan and the University of Ilorin, where he retired as a distinguished academic.
His public service career has seen him occupy several prominent positions, including Chairman of the Osun North West Local Schools Board and Presidential Liaison Officer during the administration of the late President Shehu Shagari.
He also served as Chairman of the Council of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry; Chairman of the Oyo State Pilgrims Welfare Board; Commissioner for Finance during the administration of the late Dr Omololu Olunloyo; and Chief of Staff to the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State.
He is currently a member of the Oyo State Elders Forum under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
The celebration is designed to honour Balogun’s contributions to Ogbomosoland, Oyo State and Nigeria, while reflecting on his decades of service and leadership.
The public lecture on Friday will be followed on Saturday, September 5, by the launch of Balogun’s autobiography and a grand reception.
The book launch will hold at 10:00 a.m. at the Great Hall, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, while the grand reception is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Viva Event Centre, Iresa Road, Ogbomoso.
The organisers said the celebration is expected to attract academics, traditional rulers, political leaders, public servants, community leaders, family members and other well-wishers to honour the nonagenarian and celebrate his enduring legacy.
