The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned three persons before an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan over alleged forgery, uttering of documents and obtaining money by false pretence in connection with purported Canadian visa transactions.
The suspects — Emmanuel Serah Motunrayo, Awotunde Olugbenga and Idowu Olugbemi Sunday — were arraigned separately by the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on August 17 and 19, 2026, before Justice Olusola Adetujoye.
Motunrayo and Olugbenga were arraigned on a 47-count charge involving alleged fraud amounting to N23.4 million.
The EFCC alleged that the duo presented themselves to victims as travel and immigration agents based in Abuja and promised to facilitate Canadian visas and other travel arrangements.
According to the anti-graft agency, they allegedly received N12.36 million from Oluwatobi Adeoluwa Iyanda and N11.03 million from Oyewale Tunji Bello before allegedly reneging on their promises.
The charges also include allegations that the defendants forged Canadian visa documents purportedly issued by the Canadian government and presented the documents as genuine.
One of the counts alleged that the defendants obtained N527,000 from Iyanda by falsely representing that they would secure a valid Canadian visa and flight ticket for him.
Another count accused them of forging a Canadian visa dated June 20, 2025, bearing Travel Document Number B011745448 in Iyanda’s name.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their pleas, EFCC counsel, Mohammed Abideen, asked the court to remand them in a correctional facility and fix a date for trial. Their counsel, Jimoh Wasiu, informed the court that bail applications had been filed and urged the judge to grant them bail pending the determination of the case.
Justice Adetujoye adjourned the matter until August 26, 2026, for hearing of the bail applications and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre.
Third Defendant Arraigned Over N6.65m Alleged Visa Fraud
In a separate case, the EFCC also arraigned Idowu Olugbemi Sunday before Justice Adetujoye over the alleged defrauding of Okanlawon Tunji Ajao of N6.65 million under the guise of securing Canadian visas for him and his family.
Sunday was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on forgery, uttering of documents and obtaining money by false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that between June 2025 and January 2026, the defendant obtained the N6.65 million from Ajao after falsely representing that he could secure Canadian visas for the victim and his family.
He also pleaded not guilty to the charges.
EFCC counsel, Lanre Suleiman, subsequently asked the court for a trial date and the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre.
Defence counsel, Tiwalade Shittu, informed the court that a bail application had been filed and urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.
Justice Adetujoye adjourned the case until August 26 for hearing of the bail application and ordered that Sunday be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre.
The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
