The announcement was made on Friday in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who expressed gratitude that the victims had regained their freedom after spending several weeks in captivity.

“We are happy to report to our people in Oyo State that our children and teachers at Oriire have been released from captivity,” the commissioner said.

Prince Oyelade stated that the successful rescue marked a major test of the state’s resolve in confronting criminal elements, stressing that the government remained steadfast in its decision not to pay ransom despite mounting pressure to adopt what he described as a “quick-fix” approach.

According to him, Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration demonstrated courage and long-term commitment to tackling kidnapping and banditry by refusing to negotiate with or fund criminal groups.

He argued that paying ransom would only embolden kidnappers, strengthen their operations, and encourage further attacks.
The commissioner said the government’s strategy reflected its determination to address insecurity through sustainable measures rather than actions capable of empowering criminal gangs seeking to destabilise the country.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, adding that the state government would continue to work closely with security agencies to eliminate kidnapping and other criminal activities across Oyo State.

The release brings relief to families, residents, and stakeholders who had anxiously awaited the safe return of the victims since they were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15.
