The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid a solidarity visit to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over what it described as growing political attacks on opposition parties in Nigeria.

During the visit, the PDP acknowledged what it called a shared and increasing threat confronting opposition platforms, noting that similar pressures have recently been experienced within its ranks. The party stressed the need for vigilance against actions capable of undermining democratic principles and political plurality in the country.

The high-powered PDP delegation was led by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and included prominent party figures such as Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Adolphus Wabara, Jerry Gana, Babangida Aliyu, Taofeek Arapaja, Inna Ciroma, Ishaya Bamayi, Fred Agbedi and Comrade Ini Ememobong.

They were received by key leaders of the ADC, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, Kashim Imam, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Tunde Ogbeha, Peter Obi, Liyel Imoke, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Bolaji Abdullahi.

In their response, the ADC leadership expressed appreciation for the visit and echoed concerns about what they described as an existential threat to Nigeria’s democracy, particularly through attempts to weaken major opposition parties.

Both parties, however, reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and collaboration in defence of democratic values, institutions, and political inclusiveness in the country.

The statement was signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
