86 Students Bag First Class as Ajayi Crowther University Graduates 2,679

Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, is set to graduate 2,679 deserving individuals at its 16th Convocation Ceremony.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor  of the University Professor Timothy Abiodun Adebayo during a press briefing ahead of the week-long event.

According to him “In the undergraduate category, 86 students will graduate with First Class Honours, 1,230 with Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 560 with Second Class Honours (Lower Division), and 61 with Third Class degrees. In the postgraduate category, 742 individuals will receive awards, including 82 postgraduate diplomas and 660 Master’s degrees. Notably, 77 graduates will be conferred with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in various disciplines.”

He added that This year’s convocation marks an increase in postgraduate graduands compared to last year, which had 974 undergraduate and 594 postgraduate students.

The university will also confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees on two eminent personalities: Reverend Bola Adams and Mr. Modupe Alakija, OON, in recognition of their significant contributions to society.

The convocation week, starting Monday, November 25, 2024, will feature a series of events:

Monday, November 25, 2024:

Convocation Exhibition at Theophilus Danjuma Library by 12:00 PM.

Alumni Lecture and Reunion at the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Law Auditorium by 1:00 PM.

Tuesday, November 26, 2024:

Convocation Lecture by Prof. Tola Badejo, FESN, KJW, at the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Law Auditorium by 11:00 AM.

Convocation Play at Olajire Olaniran Auditorium by 5:00 PM.

Wednesday, November 27, 2024:

Commissioning of Projects on the main campus by 9:00 AM.

Award of Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at Crowther Hall by 11:00 AM.

Thursday, November 28, 2024:

Grand Finale: Award of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degrees and Honorary Doctorate Degrees at the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Law Auditorium by 11:00 AM.

The Vice Chancellor while boasting on the exemplary performance of their students maintained that “As part of our academic developments, I affirm that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to compete favourably with their peers globally, enabling them to function practically and professionally in the real world,” stated Professor Adebayo.

Highlighting the university’s innovative triple certification system, he explained that Ajayi Crowther University undergraduates will now graduate with three certificates: a Bachelor’s degree in their field of study, a Mind Education certificate, and an Entrepreneurship Training certificate.

“This groundbreaking policy, born out of deep research and insight, ensures students receive comprehensive training that enhances their employability and entrepreneurial capabilities. It is an unprecedented achievement in Nigeria’s tertiary education landscape, positioning our graduates for greater success,” Professor Adebayo said .

“Our entrepreneurial initiatives are yielding significant results, aligning with our vision of producing graduates who are not only skilled professionals but also employers of labor. The University’s entrepreneurial unit offers training in various vocational skills, including electrical works, auto mechanics, fashion design, solar energy installation, and catering. Notably, our Fashion Design Unit now provides scrubs for medical science students, bridging practical training with the healthcare field. These efforts equip students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills to excel in a dynamic world.

“To meet the growing demand for quality education, the University urgently requires additional funding to improve infrastructure at our Offa Meta, Kieseni, and Osoogun campuses. This includes constructing faculty buildings for Communication and Media Studies, Engineering, Environmental Studies, and Health Sciences. Additionally, endowing professorial chairs will bolster academic leadership and support our continued growth. He concluded
