A group of professionals in Ibadan under the aegis of “Central Council of Ibadan Professionals (CCIP), has described the coronation of 21 monarchs by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State as a machinery to help him install his choice of successor in 2019 to cover up the rots of his administration.
The chairman of the body in Oyo State, Dr. Mufutau Adebowale, in a 13-page press statement made available to Vanguard yesterday, pointed out that the governor was afraid who would succeed him and to ensure his eventual protection and to cover the rots in his administration, the next governor must be the choice that has been carefully prepared to take over from him in 2019.
Dr. Adebowale maintained that Ajimobi was aware of the fact that the electorate are ready for him in 2019, noting that he was indirectly trying to prolong the length of his tenure by appointing a candidate who would eventually succeed him.
“The governor can only extend the depth of his tenure through qualitative governance, transparency and accountability. As a result of his failure to govern well, the governor is now in trouble with the populace.”
“When Ajimobi was campaigning for vote, he did not tell us he will increase the number of oba in Ibadanland to 32. We the Central Council of Ibadan Professionals beg President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene urgently,” he pleaded.
Dr. Adebowale, however, warned Gov. Ajimobi to be careful in his quest to get a successor at all cost, adding that those instigating him would run away from Ibadan when the time comes.
“Governor Abiola Ajimobi is the governor of Oyo State and not for Ibadan alone. Why making a law for Ibadan alone? Is age 25-35 stipulated for Ibadan chieftaincy candidates applicable to the entire Oyo State,”? Dr. Adebowale queried.
