A People’s Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant for the Ido State Constituency seat, Hon. Surajudeen Olapade Okunola, has pledged to drive rapid socio-economic development across the constituency through effective legislation if elected.
Hon. Okunola made the pledge on Friday when he appeared before PDP leaders and stakeholders in Ido Local Government Area to declare his intention to contest the 2027 election on the party’s platform.
Addressing party leaders at the meeting, which took place at Dutchman Hotel and Suites, Alafara, off Ologuneru Road, the Oyo State House of Assembly hopeful also promised to prioritize the welfare of his constituents.
“As your son, I am expressing my intention to represent you in the State House of Assembly. I promise to give you quality representation and ensure the socio-economic development of Ido and the welfare of constituents through effective legislation if given the opportunity to be the lawmaker representing you in the 2027 elections,” Hon. Okunola said.
The aspirant used the opportunity to appeal to PDP members on “the other side of the divide” to return and join the authentic party structure in Oyo State led by Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi.
Hon. Okunola is the son of late Ido political leader Alhaji T.L. Okunola and a younger brother to former Oyo State House of Assembly member Alhaji Tirimisiyu Olasupo Okunola, who represented Ido State Constituency from 2007 to 2011.
Leaders present at the meeting included Chief Biliaminu Muraina (Super B), Oyo South Senatorial Chairman; Hon. Jimoh Abiola, Ido PDP Chairman; Mrs. Olayiwola Bosede, Ido PDP Secretary; Alhaja Iyabode Alade, Ido PDP Women Leader; Hon. Monsuru Ibikunle, Ido PDP Youth Leader; Alhaji Abolade Akanni; Chief Isiaka Batake; Alhaji Oladokun Nasiru; Comrade Funke David; Mrs. Omofoyewa Yisiat; and Hon. Oladejo Oluyemi (Onikoko).
Also in attendance was a delegation of Oyo PDP leaders led by the State Secretary, Dr. Abiola Olanipekun, and Hon. Toyin Akande, Personal Assistant to Barrister Gbolarumi.
Speaking on behalf of the State Executives, Hon. Akande said the PDP is now better positioned in Oyo State for victory in the 2027 general elections.
He emphasized the importance of membership registration, urging aspirants to mobilize members in their wards to register as bonafide PDP members.
