2 friends jailed for stealing laptop, jewelries in Ibadan

A magistrate court sitting in Iyaganku on Monday sentenced one Friday Jacob, 27, and his friend Olajide Taye, 25, to 5years imprisonment with option of N40,000 fine.

The accused  persons were arraigned on four courts of conspiracy, breaking, stealing, ‎malicious damage with charge No: MI/622c/2017.

The prosecutor, Amos Adewale told the court that the accused on the 23rd of April, 2017 at new Kasumu estate, Odo-Ona Elewe, Ibadan ‎conspire together to wit house breaking and steal 

Adewale said ‎the accused broke and entered into the dwelling house of one Mr. Benemor John with the intention to steal therein.

‎According to him, the accused at the same time, date and place stole one hp Laptop valued at N300,000, one LG pad valued at N85,000 and jewellery valued at N100,000 all belonging to Mr. Benemor.

He said the accused also did maliciously damage plaster of paris ceiling (POP) valued at N200,000‎ in the house of Mr. Benemor on the aforementioned date and time 

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 516, 411, 383, 390 (9), and 451 Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.

When the case was first heard, April 12, 2017, the accused pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The magistrate, Mrs Durosaro-Tijani granted the accused bail condition of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum

Durosaro-Tijani said the sureties must be a civil servants not below level 12, with tax clearance, work I.D card or national I.D card and the address of the sureties must be verified by the Prosecutor while the case was adjourned till June 7, 2017.

On the next adjourned date, 7th June 2017, the accused persons informed the court that they will like to change their plea ‎because they were unable to meet up with the bail condition

The charge was re-read to them and the accused pleaded guilty

Thereafter the Magistrate sentenced the accuse persons to five years imprisonment with option of fine of N40,000 ‎for all the four counts. The option of fine was however meant for the second accused person.
