No fewer than 120 golfers across the country are expected at the one-day golf tournament in honour of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) Patron, Major General AB Omozoje.
Omozoje is the current General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Div, Nigerian Army, Odogbo Cantonment, Ibadan.
According to the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC), Brigadier General Edward Lot said the tournament is scheduled for this weekend to honour Major General Omozoje and achievement.
Lot, who is the vice Captain of Ibadan Golf Club said he conceptualised the tournament to celebrate the GOC who happen to be the Patron of the Club as well to foster the civil-military relationship through the game of golf.
He said “This is an Invitational tournament and the aim is to celebrate the GOC and to further cement civil-military cooperation through the game of golf. Due to time constraint and the Covid-19 regulations, we have decided to make it an Invitational tournament so as to follow the guidelines of Covid-19 as prescribed by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), hopefully by next year when the restriction have been ease on pandemic, we will make it an Open tournament to accomodate more players.
“This is maiden edition and coincidentally concise with the GOC birthday, so we want to make it as elaborated as possible and give him a befitting tournament to celebrate him for the achievement that he has recorded so far.
“We are expecting not less than 120 golfers to participate in the maiden edition of this tournament,” he said.
Also, the Secretary for the tournament, Tunde Akande Esq said all arrangements are in place to make the tournament a memorable one as Governor of the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde alongside military personnel are expecting at the welcome dinner and ceremonial tee off.
The cocktail party is scheduled for Friday while the tee off ceremony will hold on Saturday by 6:30am as the closing ceremony will hold the same day by 5:30pm.
