A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and retired military officer, Gbenga Adegbola, has extended warm felicitations to Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, as the revered monarch clocks 50.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Adegbola—who hails from Saki and is a leading aspirant for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election—described the royal father as “an embodiment of humility and a symbol of pride to the Yoruba race.” He said the monarch’s modesty, strength of character, and cultural advocacy have endeared him to people across generations.
Adegbola lauded the Alaafin’s deep commitment to the preservation of Yoruba heritage, noting that under Oba Owoade’s reign, the traditional stool of Oyo has regained its relevance and prominence within the broader Nigerian socio-cultural landscape. He emphasized that the monarch’s reign has also contributed to greater unity and development within the ancient kingdom.
“As the Alaafin marks this golden milestone, we celebrate his wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the values of the Yoruba people,” Adegbola stated. “He is not only a custodian of tradition but also a leader who connects the past with the future.”
He further applauded Oba Owoade’s efforts in fostering peace, dialogue, and mutual respect among Yoruba monarchs and leaders, describing him as a bridge-builder whose influence transcends the throne room.
Adegbola concluded his message by offering prayers for the monarch’s continued strength, sound health, and divine wisdom to lead his people with even greater impact in the years ahead
