The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, on Monday, flagged off the construction of two new hostels — a 300-bed capacity male hostel and a 300-bed capacity female hostel — at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.
The official ceremony, held at the institution’s premises, was attended by the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma (SAN), top government officials, members of the Council of Legal Education, and representatives of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
In his welcome address, Prof. Chiroma expressed deep appreciation to the FCT Minister for fulfilling his promise to support the school’s infrastructure needs. He recalled that Wike had pledged in December 2024, during the flag-off of ten staff quarters and donation of vehicles to the school, to include a budgetary provision in 2025 for the construction of the students’ hostels.
“The reason we are all gathered here this morning,” Chiroma said, “is the fulfilment of that promise — the flag-off for the construction of 300-bed space hostels each for male and female students at the Nigerian Law School, Bwari. This project will go a long way in helping the institution fulfil its mandate, and we are not taking this gesture for granted.”
The DG also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving the project and acknowledged the support of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi (SAN), as well as the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba.
Prof. Chiroma commended Wike’s consistent contributions to the development of legal education in Nigeria, noting that the Minister’s past interventions — including the establishment of the Graham Douglas Campus of the Law School in Port Harcourt and support for the Yenagoa Campus — have left enduring legacies in the justice sector.
“Posterity will be kind to you when the history of legal education and the justice sector is written in Nigeria,” he said.
The event marks another milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve facilities at the Nigerian Law School, ensuring better accommodation and learning conditions for aspiring legal practitioners in the country.
