The President of Oodua Peoples Congress Reformed (OPC(R), Comrade Oludare Olateju Adesope has hinted that his faction of the OPC has started working together with New Era OPC to unify various factions of the OPC.
Adesope stated this while addressing the press on Tuesday, during the inauguration of the executive members of Lagos State chapter OPC(R), launching of OPC Reformed Secretariat & award presentation.
The President of the OPC(R) stated that his faction and that of New Era have taken it upon themselves to unify all OPC factions in order to protect Yoruba land from any form of attack.
Also, speaking on the problems of Fulani herdsmen; Adesope who condemned the killings of innocent members of the public also disagreed with the establishment of cattle colonies in Yoruba land.
“Any Western governor that goes against his peoples’ wish to consent to cattle colonies will surely face his doom whenever he comes back to his people after the duration of his tenure.”
The National President of OPC(R) further stressed the importance of ‘state police’.
“It is a necessity because there is no one that will be more familiar with their neighborhood than the inhabitants, those that are saying Nigeria is not ripe for it is not exposed. Was Rome built in a day? There is no better time than now. We need ‘state police’ in every state to reduce crime rate and we of OPC(R) members are very ready to work with them, if we do not start early, how can we get there in time”.
- “Talking about the unification of OPC groups, we know what we want and
why we want it. Our eyes are open, we have reached our destination but why do we have to fight each other when we say we are fighting for the same cause? We should be fighting the enemies of the nation. We should boost our security and see members of each group as a fellow comrade not as an enemy. We will achieve so many things when we work together
for the same goal.”
“OPC(R) and OPC (New Era) are always working together. Otunba Oshibogun has reconciled Iba Gani Adams and myself, I don’t have anything against Dr Fasehun except when I registered my grievance with
the role he played in the last presidential election. OPC should not derail from its primary objectives, we are to represent Yoruba race well and not turn against it because of money. Even our royal fathers,
Alaafin of Oyo, Ooni of Ile Ife, Aseyin of Iseyin and many more all want this unity. You can see that Kabiesi Olooto of Oto Awori is here with us today.”
In his own response, Alhaji Afeez Sodiq OPC(R) governor, Lagos state
chapter said OPC(R) under his own leadership will work hand in hand
with the police to fight against rape, kidnapping, robbery and other
crimes to make Lagos a crime free state.
Also speaking Comrade Adeshina Akinpelu, the National PRO, OPC New
commended the leadership of OPC (R) for working together with OPC New
Era to unify various factions of the OPC.
“The unification of OPC groups is what our elders ought to have done years back but because there is no gain in disunity and it doesn’t matter who made the move because one Yoruba adage says: “If a man sees a snake, and a woman kills it, the goal of killing the snake is what matters. I know a true Yoruba son will surely support this unity move, even our royal fathers are in support of it.”
