Another fire incident has struck Oyo State, as the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo town was razed on Monday, just weeks after Yinka Ayefele’s Fresh FM station was gutted by fire.
The blaze, which reportedly started from an electrical surge in the studio’s air-conditioning system, spread rapidly before firefighters arrived. The incident led to the destruction of equipment and property worth millions of naira.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said his team, led by PFS 11 Makinde, responded swiftly to the distress call.
“When they arrived, the studio was engulfed in flames and smoke. They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira,” Akinwande stated.
He further advised the public to equip themselves with fire extinguishers and apply them effectively to curb minor fires before they escalate.
