Archbishop of Ibadan Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Gabriel Abegunrin has cautioned Nigerian against selling of votes or involving in any form of manipulation that will mar the success of the forthcoming election
The cleric who said vote buyers are evil people who have nothing good to offer the people said Nigerians should collect their money and vote according to their conscience.
Speaking with Journalist after a meeting with Bishop of Ibadan ecclesiastical Province, Bishop Abegurin also frown at situation in Nigeria and tasks Nigerians to vote for men of Integrity during the election
Also in a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Bishops said” We Bishops fully identify with the suffering and pains of all Nigeria over these years while enduring threats to the security of lives and property, crippling economic downturn and bad political leadership. We share the aspirations and yearning of All Nigerians to have new leaders who will be true patriots and servants of the people responsive to the security and welfare needs of all Nigerians without discrimination”.
The communique reads further: “Nigeria, now it is the time to elect leaders at all levels who have integrity, goodwill and the fear of God, who will trully serve the Nation rather than help themselves to her vast resources and status for their private interest, We therefor urge all eligible Nigerians to secure their permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) and vote in the elections according to their consciences, without Fear, In order to secure their own future and that of their children”
On the state of Insecurity in Nigeria, the Catholic Bishops said the abduction of Rev Fr. Michael Olofinlade and gruesome murder of Rev. Fr Isaac Achi and others poses an ill wind that blows no good especially in view of the general election.
While praying for quick and safe release of Olofinlade, the clerics urge all evil doers to repent and work with others to build a better Nigerian
