Few days ago,President Muhammadu Buhari approved the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo state and another one in Plateu State.
The approval was, no doubt, a good development that was well celebrated by all and sundry because it will not only enhance rapid infrastructural and economic growth of the state, but it would also be an avenue to create more jobs and develop talents.
The idea to to start six polytechnics and six colleges of education started in 2010 and when Senator Ayoade Adeseun was chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropiation, the position which gave him opportunity to secure the school for Oyo state and located in his constituency.
The Jonathan admnistration could not establish the proposed Polytechnic and nothing serious was done after his expiration of his tenure, though Federal lawmakers lobbied and moved to ensure the allocation did not change but it took the intervention of an Ogbomoso born top civil servant, Barrister Olusegun Adekunle, a Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary General of the Federation to ensure the Polytechnic was approved .
Some people are already laying claims to the development but Barrister Adekunle, a nephew of Nigeria’s civil war hero, the late Brigadier-General Benjamin Adekunle who ensured the Polytechnic got presidential approval and required fund for take off is not a noise maker
His invaluable contributions to the development of Ogbomoso are too numerous to mention.
It was reliably gathered that It was Adekunle, a Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, GSO, in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF who raised a memo on it and did a serious follow up to fastrack the approval and fund for the takeoff of the institution.
The role played by Soun of Ogbomosoland Oba Jimoh Oladuni oyewumi Ajagungbade 111, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, Hon Segun Dokun Odebunmi and others cannot be underestimated as they also make frantic effort to ensure the Polytechnic was approved but their letters and proposals always ended up on the table of Barrister Adekunle
Adekunle is members of Ogbomoso 1st Group, a socio-cultural group championing the course of development of Ogbomoso through selfless service, financial commitment and influence to facilitate projects thar are beneficial to the development of Ogbomoso.
When contacted, Adekunle refused self glorification but commended all the stakeholders that contributed to the development and congratulated the people of Ogbomoso.
