A joyous occasion turned into heartbreak in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Saturday as a groom and two of his friends lost their lives in a fatal auto crash just moments before his wedding ceremony.

The groom, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mustapha Garba Gumau, was enroute from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau for his wedding fatiha scheduled for 10:00 a.m. when the tragedy struck at about 9:00 a.m. near Bargan Tsamiya village.

According to reports, the vehicle conveying the groom and his entourage veered off the road and crashed, killing SP Garba and two of his close associates — Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa — on the spot. Several other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with residents and sympathizers struggling to come to terms with the tragic end of what was meant to be a day of celebration.
