The Director-General of the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Dr. Abbas Idriss has said the floods at Trademore Estate  Abuja were caused by infractions on the water channel

Trademore Estate is located on Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja

Idris also disclosed that over 116 houses were submerged at the  Estate in Abuja as a result of heavy downpour Friday morning.

Speaking during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the scene of the incident, Idriss, noted that no life was lost as a result of the incident.

Noting that , Idriss appealed to residents whose houses are built on the water channel to relocate.

According to the FEMA boss,
Trademore Estate is on the water channel and, therefore, vulnerable to floods, and that the floods have receded, and therefore, appreciated all stakeholders, and residents for their efforts and cooperation at to ensure that no life was lost.

He dismissed as untrue social media reports alleging that a resident of the Estate was swept away by the flood

While stressing that Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) had predicted heavy floods in the FCT in this rainy season, Idriss appealed to residents of the Estate whose houses sit on the water channel to relocate.
