President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the Super Eagles for their resounding 4–1 victory over Gabon in Wednesday’s FIFA World Cup qualifying Africa Playoff match, describing the win as a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s resilience and winning spirit.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said the Super Eagles displayed “courage, balance, and precision,” noting that their performance reflects the enduring character of Nigerians who “rise, adapt, and prevail.”
The President said football remains one of the nation’s strongest pillars of unity and shared pride, adding that the result injects renewed energy into Nigeria’s campaign and strengthens the collective resolve to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Tinubu commended the players, coaching crew, and the entire technical and administrative staff for their steadfast commitment to the national cause. He said their dedication has once again brought joy to millions of Nigerians and highlighted the country’s deep reservoir of football talent.
He also acknowledged the unwavering support of fans at home and abroad, describing their passion as an important driving force for the team, especially in crucial international fixtures.
