President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), on the occasion of his 84th birthday.
In a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu joined family, friends, and associates in celebrating the elder statesman, noting his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development during his eight-year rule .
The President highlighted Babangida’s distinguished military career, which spanned several command and strategic positions, including Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and Chief of Army Staff.
According to Tinubu, the Babangida administration will be remembered for its reforms that liberalised the economy as well as massive investment in infrastructure such as the construction of the Third Mainland Bridge.
He further acknowledged the establishment of key national institutions under the former leader, including the State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The President also praised Babangida for his role in creating new states and relocating the Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja, describing them as landmark decisions that shaped the country’s development trajectory.
While thanking him for his sacrifice and leadership, President Tinubu prayed to Almighty Allah to grant General Babangida more years of good health and strength.
