Ace filmmaker and founder of KAP Film Village & Resort, Kunle Afolayan, has hailed the Oyo State Government for beginning the reconstruction of the 23-kilometre Okaka–Igbojaye–KAP Village Road, describing the project as a significant moment for Nigeria’s creative sector.
Speaking on the development, Afolayan emphasized that for storytelling to thrive, critical infrastructure must not be ignored. “When we talk about filmmaking in Nigeria, we often forget that roads, light, and infrastructure are also part of the story,” he said. “This road is a win for everyone—local residents, the film industry, and the future of African storytelling.”
The road, which connects several towns including Okaka, Otu, Igbojaye, Komu, and leads directly to the KAP Film Village in Itesiwaju Local Government Area, is crucial for improving access to the creative campus, which was inaugurated in April 2025. At the unveiling, Governor Seyi Makinde publicly promised to reconstruct the road—just three months later, that promise is being fulfilled.
For Afolayan, the moment is deeply symbolic—not just of progress, but of leadership that understands the role of infrastructure in unlocking the potential of creative spaces. “It’s not every day that a political promise is fulfilled with such speed. What Governor Makinde has done is to show that culture and creativity are not just buzzwords—they are catalysts for rural revitalization and economic transformation.”
The KAP Film Village has already begun hosting programs like the KAP Advanced Filmmaking Residency, bringing together young talents and seasoned mentors from across the continent. With improved road access, the facility is now poised to welcome more filmmakers, tourists, students, and production teams.
“This is how you build a creative economy,” Afolayan added. “Not just with cameras and lights, but with roads and vision. This is a future-building moment.”
The reconstruction project aligns with the governor’s “Omituntun 2.0” vision, which focuses on sustainable development, youth empowerment, and innovation. For Afolayan and many in the industry, it is a sign that Oyo State is ready to lead by example in combining culture with infrastructure to drive growth.
