Oyo state owners six tertiary institutions, with at least over six hundred members of staff in each of the citadels of learning.
These institutions are meant to nurture upcoming generations in terms of learning and character; economic development, socialization among many other purposes.
These institutions were established for the benefits of Oyo State indigenes, those of neighbouring states and people of Nigeria at large.
By law, every civil servant is expected to stay in his/her chosen career for 35 service years or 65 years of age as the case may be.
It has, however, been observed that some staffers of these institutions are now fond of staying back in service having exhausted the statutory 35 service years or 65 years retirement age in the guise of contractual agreement.
This is denying the physically and mentally agyle fresh graduates the opportunity to earn a living. This selfish act is not only inimical to the employment opportunities for fresh graduates, but a crime against posterity. Those offering the contracts to stay back after retirement and those accepting it should fear God and begin to do the needful.
As far as death is certain, retirement from active service is also certain. If it’s your time to retire please embark on your retirement. Go and rest! Give the younger generations the opportunity to strive.
It is evil if you refuse to go or you request for a contract appointment where we have young chaps who are actively ready to contribute their qouta to the body of knowledge but are not allowed do so
It is unprofessional, evil and barbaric on the part of the registry and the management of our institutions to continue to appoint retirees back to the system under whatever guise.
I call on *the governing councils of our institutions* to wake up to the responsibility of sanitising the system.
I call on *the Oyo State Government* to carry out an investigation on staff on contract appointment who are also on pension.
Leaders of tomrow are languishing; leaders of tomorrow are wallowing in poverty. Help this upcoming generations to grow. You have retired, let them too have the opportunity of working and retiring.
Stop being greedy!
Enough is enough!
