The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted claims made by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) that a fault on TCN’s circuit breaker was responsible for power supply disruptions on August 4, 2025.
In a statement signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN clarified that there was no fault on the circuit breaker at its Osogbo 132/33kV Transmission Substation during the reported period. This clarification followed a social media post by IBEDC, which attributed the lack of electricity on the Osogbo/Ikirun 33kV feeder from midnight to 1:00 p.m. to a fault on TCN’s infrastructure.
IBEDC had earlier issued an apology to its customers, citing forced outages from TCN, as well as IBEDC’s own forced and planned outages, alongside earth and overcurrent faults, as reasons for the disruption. The company noted that all affected feeders had been restored, except for the Ogunmakin/Ajebo 33kV feeder.
Reacting to the statement, TCN urged IBEDC to ensure that any information shared with the public, especially customers, is accurate and truly reflects the situation on the ground. “While TCN acknowledges that a system may experience glitches, we remain committed to our mandate of transporting bulk electricity efficiently to distribution companies’ load centres across the country,” the statement read.
TCN also reiterated its ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and expand the national transmission network in order to enhance system performance. It called on IBEDC to review and update its earlier post to reflect the true state of affairs.
The development highlights growing concerns over power supply reliability and the need for transparent communication between Nigeria’s transmission and distribution companies.
