The ELXG Club has ushered in a new era of leadership with the inauguration of its newly elected Executive Council, led by Chief Tajudeen Adeoye, at a well-attended ceremony held yesterday at the prestigious Terivik Park and Garden Hall, Maitama, Abuja.
Chief Adeoye, a retired top official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), emerged as President following a keenly contested election that reflected the confidence members repose in his leadership capacity, dedication, and long-standing commitment to the club. He joined the ELXG Club over five years ago, even before its formalisation, and has remained a pillar of strength ever since. Until his emergence as President, he served meritoriously on the outgoing Executive Council as Financial Secretary.
A seasoned administrator and technocrat, Chief Adeoye is an alumnus of the prestigious University of Ibadan, where he obtained his Master’s degree several years ago.
He dedicated decades of distinguished service to the national oil sector, contributing immensely to the agency responsible for managing Nigeria’s foremost mineral resource before his retirement in 2025.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief Adeoye is widely respected for his community service and social engagement. His passion for humanity and grassroots development has earned him several traditional and social recognitions, including the chieftaincy titles of Baameto of Ibadanland and Babalaje Gbobaniyi, Asiwaju of Ijebuland. He is also a member of notable social clubs, including the Lagos Country Club, and currently serves as President of the Global Circle of Nigeria.
A devout Muslim, Chief Adeoye is deeply committed to the growth of Islam and community cohesion. His dedication to religious development led to his installation as Alaga Adini of Abule Oja Central Mosque. He also serves as patron and matron to several social organisations.
Joining him on the new executive team is Engr. Femi Olubiyo, who emerged as Vice President. An experienced club manager and master planner, Engr. Olubiyo is a top executive of the Okun Club and an indigene of Okunland in Kogi State. Widely regarded as one of the strategic minds driving the club’s progress, his emergence further strengthens the new leadership.
Also elected into the Executive Council are Mr. Femi Adeshina, a retired banker, as Secretary; Alhaji Sharafa Babatunde, an administrator and politician, as Treasurer; and Mr. Femi Kolawole, a banker, who will serve as Social and Welfare Officer. The executives are expected to pilot the affairs of the club for the next two years.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Adeoye described his election as a call to service, stressing that he sees himself not as a ruler but as a servant of the members. He pledged to work closely with his Vice President, fellow executives, and the entire membership to reposition the club and take it to greater heights.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Lukas Durojaiye, in his address, noted that just as a house without occupants becomes dilapidated and emits foul odour, a club without purposeful activities and committed leadership will stagnate and lose relevance. He expressed profound appreciation to elders of the club, particularly Otunba Saheed Adekoya and Otunba Kajola, for their steadfast support and guidance.
Chief Durojaiye expressed strong optimism about the future of the ELXG Club, stating that the inauguration of the new executive marks the beginning of greater achievements, given the proven capability, experience, and capacity of the newly elected leaders.
