The Governing Council, Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki has suspended the activities of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) in the institution.
This follow the decision of the staff of the Oyo state-owned institution to embark on strike,
The Council has also directed that all academic activities resume immediately.
The Governing Council gave the directive at the end of an emergency meeting which held at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Secretariat, Ibadan.
The staff union, in conjunction with their counterparts across all other tertiary institutions owned by the state government have based their decision on the strike on salary and welfare issues.
While reading the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman, Governing Council, The Oke Ogun polytechnic, Saki (TOPS), Professor Moshood Tijani said the management of the school has been ordered by the Governing Council to put up a register in the Registrar’s Conference Room for all academic staff to sign in.
Noting that the register is to open from Monday, 10th September, 2018, Prof Tijani said any member of staff who fails to comply with the directive should consider his job gone.
The communique was jointly signed by the trio of the Chairman, Governing Council, Professor Tijani, the Chairman, Council Negotiation Committee, Mr. Folorunsho Ayinla and Registrar/Secretary to Council, Mr. A.O. Ojewole.
The Chairman said “At the emergency meeting of the Governing Council of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki held today (yesterday) Thursday, 6th September, 2018 at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education, Science and technology, Secretary Ibadan, the following decisions were taken:
“By the resolution of the Council, the activities of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Saki Chapter is hereby suspended.
“That, all academic activities should resume immediately.
“That, Management should put up a central register in the Registrar’s Conference Room for all Academic Staff to sign in which in any way closes by 4:00pm on Monday, 10th September, 2018, failure of which any recalcitrant staff should regard his/her job lost.
“That, Council empowers the management to maintain peace, law and order.
“That, Council still stands on its earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Unions which has already taken effect with the payment of the July 2016 NET arrears.
