No fewer than 2,000 women across Nigeria have benefitted from a nationwide skills acquisition and empowerment programme organised by the Starladies United Business Women Initiative under its Women One World Supporting Programme.
The empowerment tools were presented to beneficiaries at the organisation’s office in Awka, Anambra State.
Speaking at the event, the President of the initiative, Mrs. Nkiruka Maryrose Duru, said the programme was designed to promote economic independence, self-reliance and sustainable development among women across the country.
According to her, participants underwent a one-week intensive hands-on training in various vocational and entrepreneurial skills, including feed processing, drip irrigation installation, vegetable farming, tomato farming, soap production and ICT security.
Mrs. Duru explained that each successful participant received basic start-up tools to enable them to immediately put into practice the skills acquired during the training.
She emphasised that economic empowerment remains a core objective of the organisation, noting that women play critical roles in nation-building and economic growth.
“Women are nation builders. When you empower a woman, you empower a family and the entire community,” she stated.
Also speaking, Hon. Chinenye Okpalachukwu commended the Local Government Area coordinators for their commitment and dedication to the vision of the initiative, noting that their efforts were instrumental to the successful implementation of the programme nationwide.
Mrs. Duru assured that beneficiaries would be closely monitored to ensure effective utilisation of the tools and knowledge gained, adding that the organisation remains committed to long-term impact rather than short-term interventions.
She further highlighted the group’s ongoing community housing project, the UBWA Women One World Estate, located in Umudiala Village, Achalla, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to her, the estate project is specifically targeted at widows and women who face challenges in acquiring landed property and housing. She noted that the initiative aims to promote property ownership among women, improve their standard of living and enhance family stability.
The Starladies United Business Women Initiative continues to champion women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship development and community advancement across Nigeria.
