The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III has reaffirmed his commitment to the advancement of educational institutions in Ogbomosoland, pledging strong support for the transformation of  Federal Polytechnic Ayede.

Oba Olaoye made this known during a courtesy visit to the institution, where he was received by the Rector and members of the Board of Management. The monarch, accompanied by some of his chiefs, commended the leadership of the Polytechnic for the commendable work they have been doing since the school’s inception.

He noted that the direction and destiny of any institution are shaped by the standards set by its leaders, especially in infrastructure, academic excellence, discipline, and institutional culture.

“The standards you set today will become the foundation upon which future generations will build,” he said. “Let us establish a legacy of excellence that will challenge and inspire those coming after us.”

Oba Olaoye assured the institution of his readiness to offer all necessary support toward achieving the long-term vision of becoming a university, noting that development, rebranding, and repositioning are essential to changing public perception and enhancing growth.

“I believe strongly that the progress of this institution will come from the collective efforts of the sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland,” he added.

The Rector of the institution, Dr Taofeek Adekunle AbdulHameed while welcoming the monarch expressed gratitude to Oba Olaoye and the Ogbomoso traditional council for their steadfast support of the institution. He acknowledged past donations and contributions that have bolstered the development of the Polytechnic and seized the opportunity to appeal for continued and increased support. The Rector identified critical challenges facing the Polytechnic, notably inadequate road infrastructure that hampers access to the permanent site, and revealed ongoing efforts, including collaborations with the Ecological Office and support from notable academics such as Prof. Shola Adepoju.

Demonstrating cultural sensitivity and foresight, the Rector announced the introduction of a new mandatory course titled “History and Culture of Ogbomoso,” which all students will undertake. This initiative aims to celebrate the heritage of the host community and foster a deeper appreciation of their environment among students.

The course’s academic credibility and cultural significance have been ensured through careful vetting by Professor Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu, Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and a respected indigene of Ogbomoso.

Highlighting the achievements of the Polytechnic, the Rector noted that it has distinguished itself among the six institutions established around the same period, receiving commendations from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for significant strides in technical education.

On his return journey from Ayede, the Soun paid an unscheduled yet heartfelt courtesy visit to the Palace of Iresapa, where he was warmly received by His Royal Majesty, Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye, the traditional ruler of Iresapa in Surulere Local Government Area.

Describing the encounter as enriching and gracious, Oba Olaoye expressed deep appreciation for the royal hospitality extended to him and his entourage.

“I look forward to a more formal visit soon, as we continue to strengthen the bonds of unity, tradition, and mutual respect among the great institutions of Ogbomosoland,” he stated.

The visit is part of the monarch’s ongoing engagements to foster collaboration, unity, and developmental progress across communities in the region.
