The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspected members of Eiye cult group for allegedly bidding to kill the traditional ruler of Gbokoto land in Oja Oda area of Ogun State, Oba G.O Olukunle
The suspects identified as Michael Ayodele, Monday Samuel, Ademola Matthew, Hammed Jelili, Ogundele Ojeh and Sunkanmi Fadina allegedly stormed the palace of the monarch on Sunday and attempted to assassinate the monarch.
Police intervention reportedly stopped the bid.
The suspects were said to be acting on the instruction of one of the monarch’s children.
The Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said Oba Olukunle alerted the Oja Oda Police Division that some cultists had invaded his palace and were about to kill him.
Oyeyemi said, “The policemen engaged them in a shootout and eventually subdued the cultists and got six amongst them arrested.
“On interrogation, the arrested suspects confessed being members of the dreaded Eiye confraternity; they also informed the police that it was the son of the Oba who is now at large that invited them to eliminate his father because of an unresolved issue the Oba has been having with his mother.”
