The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 01, Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, has described the resignation of former Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale from the party as a welcome development and a relief.
Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central Senatorial District between 2003 and 2007, formally notified the ward executives of his resignation from the PDP, shortly after stepping down as chairman of the Governing Council of Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa — a move that had raised questions about his relationship with Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Speaking at a special ward congress held in Iragbiji on Monday, the PDP Ward 01 Chairperson, Taibat Oladimeji, whose speech was delivered by Abayomi Adegoke, said Ogunwale had long distanced himself from the party, making his exit inconsequential to its current strength and structure.
“The special ward congress affirmed that the exit of Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale (Jumokol) from the party was a relief for us at the ward and local government level because he has not participated in any party activities for about a year,” Oladimeji said.
She emphasized that the PDP structure in the ward remains intact, and that Ogunwale’s absence had already been compensated for by committed party members and executives.
The congress, attended by party members, stakeholders, and observers, reaffirmed the ward’s loyalty to the PDP and expressed unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke. A vote of confidence was also passed on the governor, citing his “sterling performance across all sectors,” particularly in Boripe Local Government.
“The congress resolved to intimate the leadership of our party at the state and national level with our position that all of us — the ward leaders, executives and members — remain faithful, steadfast, undeterred and resolute to uphold our party and ensure its victory in all future elections,” Oladimeji added.
She also praised Adeleke’s ongoing projects in the area and lauded the synergy between the state government and the PDP leadership, which she said had ensured stability and unity within the party.
In his resignation letter addressed to the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, and Governor Adeleke, Ogunwale cited “personal growth and sincere commitment to the welfare of his people” as reasons for his departure.
Efforts to reach Ogunwale by punch correspondent for comment were unsuccessful, as calls to his mobile line went unanswered and a text message sent to him remained unacknowledged at the time of filing this report.
