Former Senate President and immediate past Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to immediately set up a Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the party, saying it is the only path to restoring peace and stability.
Saraki made the call on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, when he received members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) Reconciliation Team led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu (Wakilin Adamawa) at his residence.
According to him, the proposed Caretaker Committee should be constituted within the next two days to manage the party’s affairs pending the resolution of ongoing legal and political disputes surrounding the scheduled National Convention slated for November 15–16 in Ibadan.
He said that while several party leaders had made selfless efforts to ensure a smooth convention, the process had unfortunately become enmeshed in deep controversy.
> “It is regrettable that despite the arduous efforts of some of us, the Convention has become mired in extensive political and legal controversy. This situation does not bode well for our party or for Nigeria’s democracy,” Saraki said.
The former Senate President stressed that political matters are best resolved through dialogue rather than litigation, warning that the current spate of conflicting court orders on the validity of the convention could render its outcome null and void.
> “The truth is that there are conflicting court orders in relation to the scheduled convention. As a result, there is no assurance that its conduct and outcome will stand,” he noted.
Saraki explained that setting up a Caretaker Committee would provide a neutral platform to reconcile aggrieved members, restore confidence among aspirants, and chart a clear course for the party ahead of future elections.
> “The only solution available to us now is to set up a Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the party for the time being. This is the path to true reconciliation and stability,” he said.
He further warned that going ahead with the convention in its current state would only “fuel the present crisis” and discourage credible aspirants from contesting under the PDP.
> “In the present circumstance, no serious politician with electoral ambition will seek to contest on the PDP platform, not knowing whether his or her nomination will be valid or declared null and void,” he added.
Saraki concluded by urging the BOT to act swiftly in the interest of unity and the survival of the PDP, insisting that it was “not too late to find a win-win solution.”
